Jazz and dinner

Our gallery has had success in combining art and food by letting the menu in restaurant Krebsegaarden Mad & Kunst reflect the ongoing exhibitions in the gallery. In April 2009 we started an experiment in further combining food and art, by starting a series of jazz and dinner events. We invite small jazz groups - solos, duos and trios - to play live music while the guests enjoy a three course meal in the art decorated restaurant. We try to do this on the last Tuesday of every month (except in summer). On this page you will find oncoming and past events. The musicians play two sets 18:30-19:45 and 20:45-22:00 and reservations can be made on phone +45 20124015

This evening we welcome one of the leading female jazz musicians we have in Denmark. She’s been around for a long time and is known from many different constallations - from big band to smaller groups and trios and duos. Since 1993 she has regularly been performing with her own trio (with Jacob Fischer and Jens Skou Olsen) and made several records with them.

This evening she has company of Daniel Franck, with whom she has performed often in a quartet with Ben Besiakov and Frands Rifbjerg.

She will probably bring with her the product of her latest project - a quintet with Lars Lundin and Jeppe Gram in addition to Daniel and Jacob Fischer. They have been recording the music of the Swedish composer Lars Gullin, so maybe we will get a few samples of his wonderful, melancholy music.

We hope for a repeat performance of last year’s highly successful concert in our little restaurant when Martin interpreted a broad selection of X-mas tunes in ways you never hear a singer do anywhere else. Expertly backed by Jacob’s marvellous guitar play and the never waning expertise of the grand old man on bass - Hugo Rasmussen.

We can only say one thing: We can hardly wait.

(Tip: Book early - 20124015)

The group Tresafinado consists of two danes and a Brazilian. The danes, Pia Kaufmanas on flute and Torsten Borbye Nilelsen on guitar are classical trained, while Afonso Corrêa is the real deal Brazilian percussionist. They play a wide spectrum of music - fiery spanish, Venezuelan waltz or simple nordic folk tunes, but this evening the main emphasis will be on chôro, which originated in Rio de Janeiro in the late 19th centrury. Choro could be claimed to be the first urban popular music typical of Brazil. The music is very rythmical, with lots of improvisation, counterpoints and syncopation. Afonoso will not be able to bring his drum set to the gallery, but we have high expectations in hearing what he can achieve with just a pandeiro (a distant cousin to the tambourine)

Tresafinado will play one set during Mariettas opening show at 19:00
This evening we welcome a super duo, with Jacob Christoffersen on keybaord and Jesper Bodilsen on bass. Both musicians have for years manifested their roles are leading artists on their instruments. The duo is 2/3 of the trio JC3 (Jonas Johansen with his drum set cannot be squeezed into our small restaurant) that has made two highly acclaimed records: Facing the sun (2006) and in April this year an album just called JC3.

We are really looking forward to an evening that will give us original compositions along with exciting interpretations of standards.

In connection with the Cultural Night in Copenhagen, we are happy to announce that our Gallery will be offering 3 short concerts with this exiting duo: Thor Backhausen on accordeon and Paul Banks (guitar and vocal).
They know each other well - almost 20 years ago they made a record together with Kristian Jørgensen (Comes Love).

Both musicians have been on the music scenes of Copenhagen for decades and have played in many different settings. Paul was born in Denver Colorado, travelled around a lot and eventually came to Copenhagen in the early 1960s. He has been playing in many different settings, too numerous to be listed here, and he has deservedly received two Danish Music Awards (2001, 2006), the latter for best blues.

Thor should be known by many from his time with Nulle and Verdensorkesteret, but he has an impressive list of constallations he has performed with, including Jazzbizz.

These two experienced musicians have promised us a mix of blues, bossa, Django, folk and latin.

They play 3 sets: 20:30, 21:30 and 22:30.
